The High Court has ruled that Uganda Christian University (UCU) must pay Samantha Mwesigye 100 million Ugandan shillings in damages for irrationally refusing to honor her first-year law credits from King’s College London, as stated in her 2022 admission letter.
Justice Bernard Namanya found the university’s last-minute demands procedurally unfair and a breach of Mwesigye’s legitimate expectations, even after she was elected the 27th guild president in November 2024.
The judge also faulted the Mukono-based University for blocking Mwesigye’s graduation.
The decision, hailed by Mwesigye’s lawyers as a landmark for student rights, adds interest and costs but stops short of ordering her immediate graduation.
