‘Onana is a talented goalkeeper, but Manchester United is not a place for mistakes’

In an interview withrio.meets.world, Alex Ferguson was particularly critical of André Onana: ‘Watching Onana last season was worrying. Too many mistakes, too many goals that should never have been conceded at Manchester United. ‘The Scotsman insists on the specific requirement of the Mancunian club: ‘At Old Trafford, this level of inconsistency is immediately exposed.’

While acknowledging the Cameroonian goalkeeper’s talent, Ferguson points out that this is not enough at this level:’Onana is a talented goalkeeper, no doubt. But Manchester United is not a place for mistakes: if you are not consistent, you do not survive long at Old Trafford.’

Conversely, Ferguson was complimentary about Lammens, whose performances marked the season.’Lammens, however, has completely changed the feeling around the defense. You can see confidence again,’he explained.

The technician highlights impressive statistics: ‘156 saves already this season and he is approaching the Premier League record for a single season. This is not normal. He is a goalkeeper who keeps a team alive.’

In his analysis, Ferguson also placesThibaut Courtoisas the current benchmark:’For now, only Courtois operates at this elite level.’He even believes that Lammens surpasses some big names: ‘Compared to Marc-André ter Stegen and David Raya, he still comes out on top for his influence and saves this season.’Through these words, the former coach underlines a constant reality at the highest level: consistency remains the key to lasting, especially in a club as exposed as Manchester United.
