NEMA Issues 30-Day Ultimatum for Wetland Encroachers in Kampala

By Derrick Werikhe
The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has given individuals and businesses encroaching on wetlands in Kampala a 30-day ultimatum to vacate the affected areas or face enforcement action.
According to NEMA, the grace period will allow the authority to carry out boundary marking, issue restoration orders, identify and mark illegal structures, and intensify surveillance to prevent further encroachment on protected wetlands.
The move is aimed at restoring degraded wetland ecosystems and strengthening environmental protection efforts in the Kampala Metropolitan Area. NEMA has urged all affected occupants to comply with the directive before the deadline expires.
