There was no criminal liability over the crash that led to the death of former Liverpool striker Diego Jota and his younger brother Andre Silva, Spanish investigators have ruled in court.
Jota and Silva were killed in a car crash in northern Spain on July 3, 2025, when their Lamborghini veered off the A‑52 motorway near Cernadilla.
Following an investigation, a Spanish court has determined that the crash was due to the Lamborghini suffering a blown out tyre while overtaking a car, before bursting into flames upon hitting a barrier in the middle of the carriageway.
The High Court of Justice in the province of Zamora, north-west Spain, has concluded that no criminal action is necessary regarding the deaths of both Jota and Silva, following the review of the entire evidence. In a report from The Athletic , it is revealed that the courts ‘dismissed the case.
