No Demolitions at Namboole as Upgrade Plans Take

By Ssonko Haula

Uganda will not demolish any part of Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, as preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations continue. Instead, authorities plan to construct new extensions to improve facilities and meet CAF standards. The upgrades will include VIP lounges, a media centre, sky boxes, and expanded seating capacity from 38,000 to 45,000. The UPDF Engineering Brigade has already begun work, focusing on redesigning key areas like changing rooms and press sections. Officials say the main structure should be ready by December, with final finishes expected by February ahead of the tournament co-hosted with Kenya and Tanzania.
