Ugandan hip hop pioneer GNL Zamba has praised fellow rapper Feffe Bussi for transforming freestyle rap into a mainstream movement, describing him as one of the most influential figures in Uganda’s current hip hop scene.Speaking during a recent podcast appearance, GNL Zamba openly referred to Feffe Bussi as the “undisputed current Hip Hop king,” a statement that has since sparked debate among rap fans and music lovers.
Unlike the rivalry often associated with hip hop culture, GNL’s remarks came with admiration and respect as he applauded Feffe Bussi’s consistency, authenticity and ability to attract massive audiences while staying true to rap music.“I don’t have any problem calling another man king while I am king too,” GNL said before crediting Feffe for achieving milestones many rappers have struggled to attain.
According to the veteran rapper, Feffe Bussi has successfully balanced commercial success with lyrical authenticity, something he believes is rare within Uganda’s music industry.GNL particularly applauded Feffe’s impact on freestyle rap, noting that the rapper has elevated the art form into a crowd-pulling spectacle capable of commanding mainstream attention.
“Feffe Bussi has brought freestyle to a new level that even people who have been in the industry for fifteen years can’t do,” he said.The rapper also highlighted Feffe’s ability to turn battle rap energy into commercially successful entertainment through concerts and performance culture.
For years, Uganda’s hip hop industry has been shaped by competition, with rappers constantly battling for dominance and recognition. However, endorsements from respected pioneers like GNL Zamba carry significant influence within the culture.
Many fans have since interpreted GNL’s comments as a sign of respect for the new generation of rappers who continue to expand the reach of Ugandan hip hop.Whether or not everyone agrees with the “hip hop king” title, Feffe Bussi’s growing influence in Uganda’s rap scene continues to become increasingly difficult to ignore.
