Authorities have introduced new building regulations aimed at improving safety and accountability in the construction sector

Under the new rules, all buildings must be inspected by local authorities once construction is completed. The inspection is meant to ensure that each structure meets approved standards and is safe for people to live or work in before an occupation permit is issued.Officials say this measure will help reduce the increasing cases of unsafe buildings and protect the public from potential accidents. In addition, stricter penalties have been put in place for those who fail to follow the law. Anyone found carrying out construction without a valid permit will be fined 20,000 Uganda shillings per square meter of the built-up area. Offenders may also face up to two years in prison, or both.Authorities are now urging all developers and property owners to comply with the regulations to avoid penalties and promote safer construction
