Veteran Ugandan actor and playwright John Ssegawa has called on broadcasters to prioritize local storytelling, arguing that television still holds a vital role despite the rise of digital platforms. Speaking during celebrations marking 20 years of NTV Uganda, Ssegawa emphasized that television remains powerful because of its ability to build trust, unite families, and capture shared national moments. He praised the station for amplifying voices and supporting creative industries through music, film, and drama.However, he expressed concern over the growing dominance of foreign content and digital algorithms, which he said are overshadowing Uganda’s rich cultural narratives. Ssegawa urged broadcasters to invest in local productions, maintain high standards, and uphold credibility through research and strong editorial practices.
