The government of Uganda has revoked licences of 275 labour export companies following rising concerns over fraud, exploitation, and human trafficking. State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, said the move aims to protect vulnerable job seekers from abuse abroad. Authorities warned the public to remain vigilant and only deal with licensed agencies. The affected firms include several recruitment agencies operating across the country. Despite the crackdown, Uganda recorded over 1.6 billion dollars in remittances in 2025, highlighting the sector’s importance. Officials say stricter regulation will restore trust and ensure safe labour migration for Ugandans.
