The Electoral Commission (EC) has clarified that the Kalangala District Woman MP by-election will only be held after the 12th Parliament is sworn in. This follows the death of MP Hellen Nakimuli on April 19, 2026, after surgery in Kampala.EC chairperson Simon Byabakama said there is no time to organise a by-election before the current parliamentary term ends. He explained that the process will begin after May 13, when the new Parliament starts.This means Kalangala will temporarily have no Woman MP, as Nakimuli died before taking oath. The EC says it will wait for official communication from Parliament before announcing nomination and polling dates.Nakimuli is remembered for championing women and youth in Kalangala.
